Launch of the "Arab Common Market for Electricity" To Enhance Supply and Reduce Costs

The League of Arab States launched the "Arab Common Market for Electricity", through an agreement signed by 11 countries, during the activities of the fifteenth session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, which was held in the New Administrative Capital in Egypt, intending to enhance supply and reducing costs.

The Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector of the League of Arab States, Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, stressed in his speech that "the launch of the (Arab Common Market for Electricity) is a qualitative leap in the process of joint Arab action, as this market will contribute to enhancing the stability of electricity supply, reducing costs, supporting renewable energy investments, and strengthening the position of Arab countries as major exporters of clean energy globally."

The signatories to the Arab Common Market for Electricity agreement, in addition to Saudi Arabia and Egypt, included the UAE, Kuwait, Palestine, Syria, Qatar, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, and Morocco.
